Range Rover Evoque XL coming in 2016

Land Rover plans to launch a larger, lightweight Range Rover Evoque XL to slot between the existing car and the Range Rover Sport. According to a report by Autocar, the new model is codenamed L560 and is expected to be launched in 2016.

The report also says L560 will be based on the same aluminium platform as the new family of compact Jaguar models and will be made in the same new facility, currently being built at Solihull.
The report suggests that the Evoque XL could achieve annual sales of up to 80,000 units and is likely to be the most profitable model of the five body styles (four Jaguars and this new Range Rover) being planned on the new aluminium platform. 

L560 is also likely to become Range Rover’s most economical model, thanks to a combination of the lightweight aluminium architecture and the all-new ‘Hotfire’ four-cylinder engines currently being developed by JLR. Indeed, the majority of Evoque XL models are likely to be powered by four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines (further reducing overall weight) in various states of tune.

The addition of this model is likely to round off the Range Rover family for the medium term.

ICICI Lombard launches ‘road side assistance cover’

MUMBAI: Private sector general insurer ICICI Lombard General Insurance today launched ‘road side assistance cover’ for its private car insurance policy holders.

As per the company, the add on cover will provide complete assistance in case of an emergency like vehicle breakdown or accident.

Premium for the new cover will start from Rs 99, it added. “With the new cover, we are offering this product to our customers during their hour of need. This will ensure that our customers derive the maximum benefit out of their motor insurance policy,” ICICI Lombard Chief (underwriting and claims) Sanjay Datta said.

In this cover, the insurance company will arrange for accommodation in the event of vehicle of the insured being immobilised due to breakdown or accident. It will arrange for alternate transport, arrangement of fuel, and assistance to reach nearest garage among others.

Porsche unveils 911 Turbo and Turbo S Cabriolet

 Porsche has unveiled the 2014 911 Turbo S and Cabriolet ahead of their official debut at the 2013 LA Auto Show. These cars follow their fixed roof sibling which were unveiled in May and commemorate the 50th anniversary of the iconic German sportscar.   

Both cars use the same underpinnings and engine line up as their Coupe sibling but in the case of the convertible, it gets a new fabric roof with a magnesium frame. This roof can be opened in 13 seconds at speeds of up to 48kmph. Thanks to the magnesium frame, the roof is able to maintain the coupe like shape. 

The Turbo cabriolet and the Turbo S cabriolet both make use of the famed Porsche 3.8-litre turbo charged six-cylinder engine that now produces 521PS in the standard car and 561PS in the Turbo S. This combination has given the car a 0-100kmph time of 3.1 seconds and a top speed of 312kmph.

While the Turbo has been priced at 160, 700 USD (Rs One Crore) the more powerful Turbo S costs 193, 900 (Rs 1.21 Crore) and this does not include a 950 USD (Rs 59, 000) destination charge. Deliveries are expected to take place early next year. 

The Porsche India website has both cars already listed but no price as yet. We will update you as  soon as the price is out though much like the others cars in the Porsche range, you would need a significantly deep pockets to be able to buy one.

Nissan Terrano, the sibling of the Renault Duster, is expected to be introduced in India by the end of 2013. According to reports, the Terrano compact SUV is going to be the last car from the Renault-Nissan badge engineering alliance. Officials from the alliance have said that it would be better for both firms this policy was discontinued. The Terrano was officially unveiled by Nissan in the month of August and received good reviews from experts and the media. Although no official statement has been released, strong rumours suggest that the Terrano is going to hit Indian showrooms by October. The Nissan Terrano has a stylish design that is much more sophisticated and modern as compared to the Duster. Exteriors of this compact SUV come with features like heritage grille, headlights surrounded by a sporty bezel, elegant tail lights, diamond-cut machined alloy wheels. As far as the interiors are concerned, this utility vehicle boasts of dual-tone beige interiors featuring leather seats and a black dash for added style and comfort.

The Terrano is going to be available in two engine options including one diesel and one petrol. Diesel version of the Terrano compact SUV is going to be equipped with a 1.5-litre diesel engine. The diesel variant of the Nissan Terrano will have two transmission options, namely 5-speed and 6-speed manual gearboxes. The 5-speed transmission version will produce a power of around 83 bhp and the 6-speed variant will generate approximately 108 bhp. In addition, a petrol guise of the Terrano is going to be launched, which will be equipped with a 1.6-litre engine, churning out around 102 bhp. According to sources, the Terrano is going to be priced above the Duster due to its added premium features.

Honda, virtually, has redefined itself as a brand in the Indian car market by launching the Amaze compact sedan, its first diesel vehicle. Hoping to capitalise on the success of the Amaze, the Japanese car maker is expected to launch the Brio Multi Purpose Vehicle in India, which will compete against the Terrano. Till now, Honda has only released a sketch of its upcoming compact SUV, which is expected to hit Indonesian showrooms first. Based on the Brio platform, this car will have a design similar to the Amaze and according to sources, could be called the Mobilio. The Japanese car maker has designed the Brio MPV for developing nations, such as Indonesia, India and Malaysia. Like India, the compact SUV segment is also rising in Indonesia as well.

This car from Honda is likely to come in both petrol and diesel engine options along with several technologically advanced features. Industry experts believe that the success of the Earth Dreams diesel technology is going to boost the sales of the Brio based MPV. Earlier, it was said that Honda did not manufacture products for mass buyers, something that the firm has sought to change in the recent past. Some of the features expected to be included in this car are power windows, rear wipers, chrome vents, dual interior lamps, central locking and Anti-lock Braking System. Sources close to this development have claimed that Honda is likely to adopt an aggressive pricing strategy for the Brio MPV, just like it did for the Amaze. Honda has made no official statement regarding the unveiling or the launching of the Brio MPV. However, there are strong chances that the Honda Brio MPV will be unveiled at the 2014 Auto Expo in Greater Noida. Though the Nissan Terrano will be launched earlier than the Brio MPV, the latter is going to be a strong competitor for the former.

There is a panoramic sunroof with a tinted glass that comes with an electronic controller. One of the highlights of the new Octavia is the Electronic Stability Control function that drastically improves the driving dynamics of the car. Other highlights of the new Octavia is the six airbags, automatic front wiper and lighting system, Tyre Pressure Monitor and Skoda Audio Player. The comfort of driver is enhanced by the 2-way electrically adjustable driver seat, which also has memory settings for storing a preferred arrangement.

Although nothing has been confirmed, Skoda is expected to introduce the Octavia in both diesel and petrol options. Reports have claimed that the diesel version will be powered by 2.0-litre engine, which will produce around 150 bhp. According to sources, there will be two petrol versions of the new Skoda Octavia including 1.8-litre and 1.4-litre variants.
