The add on cover will provide complete assistance in case of an emergency e.g. vehicle breakdown or accident manufacture. The cover starts from Rs. 99 for any car brand/ model or year of manufacture.

Some of the unique features available of the new add-on cover include:

 *   Arrangement of accommodation in the event of the insured’s vehicle being immobilized due to a breakdown/accident.

 *   Arrangement of alternate transport i.e. taxi to assist the insured in case of vehicle breakdown.

 *   Breakdown support to help rectify minor mechanical faults over the phone or if required at the site.

 *   Arrangement of fuel in case of an emergency or vehicle breakdown.

 *   Assistance to nearest garage over the phone and using GPS technology.

 *   Message relay to send SOS messages to the family members in case of vehicle breakdown.

Tata Nano showcased as police vehicle!

The security firm ‘Grand’ has displayed the Tata Nano as a police vehicle at the ongoing India International Security Expo in New Delhi

 

The Tata Nano has been showcased as a rather surprising probable for the Delhi Police Control Room (PCR) vehicle at the ongoing 16th India International Security Expo which is taking place in Pragati Maidan, New Delhi.

 This new avatar of the Nano is thanks to the security firm ‘Grand’, which is known for supplying red, blue and other beacons to government vehicles. It comes equipped with medical gadgets, a first-aid kit and a set of red-blue beacons, a siren and search lights. Grand says that it can be used by lady police drivers to rescue women and children in distress from Delhi streets.

 ”We have just launched a concept of using the small car for emergency response instead of the big PCR vehicles being used at present by Delhi Police. We would want the police and other agencies tasked for exigency duties to have a look and see if this fits their bill,” Monty Singh of the security firm Grand is quoted by PTI as saying.

 ”It is good that indigenous efforts are being made in the security gadgets and devices domain in the country. I will ask officials in the paramilitary and police forces to see whatever this exhibition offers and explore if they need something for their use,” Anil Goswami, Union Home Secretary, said after unveiling and inspecting the car, reports PTI.

 The Nano has a 2 cylinder 624cc petrol engine making 38 PS of power and 51 Nm of torque. Earlier this year, Tata Motors had given the Nano a minor facelift.

Volkswagen working on Ducati powered XL-1 Sport

When you have a large group of companies under your wing, it only matter of time before the explosive experiments begin. It seems now Volkswagen is working on one such fire cracker called the XL-1 sport. It is based on the XL-1 small car which has taken the world by storm thanks to its efficient design and hybrid diesel mill. The car was revealed to a gathering at Vienna University by Ferdinand Piech, Chairman of the VW group.

The standard car speaks subtly of efficiency, the XL-1 Sport screams performance and will be powered by a 1.2-litre Ducati sourced engine, making it a potential track day cruise missile. The engine, sourced from the 1199 Panigale, is a V-twin that produces 191PS and 1234Nm of torque. The standard car made mostly of carbon fibre weighs 795kgs and this includes the presence of the electric motor. The XL-1 Sport ditches the electric motor so it should potentially weighs even lesser giving it a high power to weight ratio. 

It also gets sporty design which seems to include a body kit, special alloy wheels and some racing decals. We expect racing seats and more carbon fibre for the interiors too. The XL-1 is likely to go into production next year but this just a concept vehicle and maybe ready in time for next year’s Worthersee festival.

If the vehicle goes into production, it will be a worthy rival for the host of small British trackday cars like the BAC Mono, Caterham 7 and the Ariel Atom.

Porsche unveils 911 Turbo and Turbo S Cabriolet

 Porsche has unveiled the 2014 911 Turbo S and Cabriolet ahead of their official debut at the 2013 LA Auto Show. These cars follow their fixed roof sibling which were unveiled in May and commemorate the 50th anniversary of the iconic German sportscar.   

Both cars use the same underpinnings and engine line up as their Coupe sibling but in the case of the convertible, it gets a new fabric roof with a magnesium frame. This roof can be opened in 13 seconds at speeds of up to 48kmph. Thanks to the magnesium frame, the roof is able to maintain the coupe like shape. 

The Turbo cabriolet and the Turbo S cabriolet both make use of the famed Porsche 3.8-litre turbo charged six-cylinder engine that now produces 521PS in the standard car and 561PS in the Turbo S. This combination has given the car a 0-100kmph time of 3.1 seconds and a top speed of 312kmph.

While the Turbo has been priced at 160, 700 USD (Rs One Crore) the more powerful Turbo S costs 193, 900 (Rs 1.21 Crore) and this does not include a 950 USD (Rs 59, 000) destination charge. Deliveries are expected to take place early next year. 

The Porsche India website has both cars already listed but no price as yet. We will update you as  soon as the price is out though much like the others cars in the Porsche range, you would need a significantly deep pockets to be able to buy one.

Toyota Innova Facelift Z variant spotted; October launch likely

The facelifted Toyota Innova is likely to be launched next month. It has undergone a major transformation both inside and outside and will get a new top-end Z variant which has now been spotted Indian shores at a Toyota dealer’s yard.

Toyota has gone all out with the Innova Z variant in a bid to make it more appealing to the Indian customers, who is known to have a love for all things shiny and bright. It gets a big and wide chrome grille, chrome fog lamp accents and a redesigned front bumper giving it more of a SUV look. There is more chrome on the tailgate and the outside rear view mirrors have integrated turn indicators. On the side, the Innova Z variant has decals running across the length of the car. Inside the Z will get a touch-screen entertainment system along with a screen for the rear passengers.

The Z-variant will be available with both the petrol and diesel engine options but most likely only on the BS4 engines. As we have said before, with all the added features The Z variant should be priced anywhere close to Rs 40000 to Rs 50000 more than the current top of the line VX-variant of the Innova.

When launched, the Innova facelift will compete with the Mahindra Quanto, Chevrolet Tavera, Tata Safari and Mahindra Scorpio of which the latter two has more to do with pricing. We have previewed the Innova facelift and you can read more about it in the link pasted below.
