Porsche Macan to debut at LA Motor Show – Official

Porsche, the ultra luxury carmaker has officially announced that it will unveil the new Macan SUV at the 2013 Los Angeles Auto Show. Alongside the SUV, the company will also display the 911 Turbo Cabriolet and 911 Turbo S Cabriolet models, Porsche 918 Spyder, Panamera Turbo S and Turbo S Executive.

Macan SUV will be the company’s cheapest offering, and will help the Porsche to smoothly transit from the niche sportcar maker to a premium carmaker. Looking at its images, it seems like the vehicle take its styling cues from the Cayenne. The SUV will have different rear end that features a tailgate-mounted spoiler and slender tailights. Based on the Volkswagen’s famous MLB platform, the Macan will get the LED-infused headlights, a sloping roofline and curvaceous bodywork.

The interiors of the 2014 Macan resembles the Cayenne, and it comes equipped with a three-spoke steering wheel, dashboard and centre console. The vehicle also has dark trim, metallic accents and a large infotainment system.

The 911 Turbo Cabriolet and 911 Turbo S Cabriolet, open air 911 sports cars accelerate from 0 to 60mph (0-96.5kmph) in 3.3 and 3.1 seconds respectively, and attains a top track speed of up to 195mph (313kmph). Moreover, the company will also present the Porsche 918 Spyder for the first time at an auto show in North America. This plug-in hybrid offers an unprecedented combination of performance by combining the 887bhp output of a super sports car and the virtually silent propulsion of an electric vehicle. The vehicle can accelerate from 0 to 60mph (0-96kmph) in less than 2.8 seconds

Additionally, the Porsche will also showcase the Panamera Turbo S and Panamera Turbo S Executive models. The vehicle churns out a maximum power output of 570bhp and has a top track speed of 192mph (309kmph).

Bajaj to launch its RE60 quadricycle by end-2014

The Indian government has issued a draft notification to classify the quadricycle as a commercial vehicle under the Central Motor Vehicles Regulations (CMVR) and once this is approved, quadricycles will be officially eligible to ply on Indian roads. The notification will stipulate the standards to be followed by the vehicle here.

Accordingly, Bajaj Auto has said that it plans to introduce its RE60 quadricycle sometime towards the end of 2014. 

To distinguish the quadricycle from passenger cars, there are weight and top speed restrictions on these vehicles. Also, these vehicles will only be allowed for the taxi and cargo segments and not as personal passenger vehicles. The RE60 is ready for production and will be rolled out from Bajaj Auto’s Aurangabad facility in Maharashtra, pending government sanction. The company also has plans to export the vehicle to some international markets. The RE60 is powered by a 200cc, single cylinder, four-strokethat is good for an expected 18bhp and is likely to return a 30-35kpl fuel consumption figure.

Bentley may launch four-door coupe, SUV and new Mulsanne in future line up

Bentley seems to be on the path to expand its range and this includes an SUV, a Mercedes-Benz CLS rivalling four door coupe and a new Mulsanne all of which should see the light of day by the end of 2020. It had previewed the SUV in the form of EXP 9 and despite facing much criticism for the design will go forward with it for a 2015 launch. The Mulsanne and the Continental GT by that time will be due for a facelift and should get new models; however, the surprise is the announcement of the four-door coupe which will be their first car to go below the Continental GT.

A report from Carmagazine UK suggests that the four-door Coupe will be 4.8-meters long and will make use of turbocharged V6 diesel and petrol engines. It is expected to be priced in the region of 125, 000 GBP to 150, 000 GBP (Rs 1.2 Crore to Rs 1.5 Crore). We had reported in June that the third generation Continental GT and Porsche Panamera will share common underpinnings that were being developed by the latter. The new four-door Coupe is also expected to use the same design and construction.

The new Mulsanne, Bentley flagship palace on wheels, will see the light of day in 2020 and will switch from the 6.7-litre V8 to surprisingly a larger W12 mill and will include four-wheel drive option also.

Finally the SUV, which we hope will look better than the EXP9 concept vehicle is expected to share its engines and underpinnings with the next generation Audi Q7. The report suggests that it will only get a petrol engine but we believe that if Bentley sees potential in markets like ours, the its upcoming SUV will also have a diesel-hybrid under the hood. It has already previewed a basic design sketch for the SUV on its official website.

It’s a common strategy among manufacturers to have a wider range of vehicle in different segments and it seems that even the ones sitting on top have realised that such move is financially viable and provides stability in the long run.

Toyota Innova Facelift Z variant spotted; October launch likely

The facelifted Toyota Innova is likely to be launched next month. It has undergone a major transformation both inside and outside and will get a new top-end Z variant which has now been spotted Indian shores at a Toyota dealer’s yard.

Toyota has gone all out with the Innova Z variant in a bid to make it more appealing to the Indian customers, who is known to have a love for all things shiny and bright. It gets a big and wide chrome grille, chrome fog lamp accents and a redesigned front bumper giving it more of a SUV look. There is more chrome on the tailgate and the outside rear view mirrors have integrated turn indicators. On the side, the Innova Z variant has decals running across the length of the car. Inside the Z will get a touch-screen entertainment system along with a screen for the rear passengers.

The Z-variant will be available with both the petrol and diesel engine options but most likely only on the BS4 engines. As we have said before, with all the added features The Z variant should be priced anywhere close to Rs 40000 to Rs 50000 more than the current top of the line VX-variant of the Innova.

Tata Motors to launch Nano automatic in Indonesia by 2014

With an objective to enhance the company’s global market, Tata Motors has officially launched three cars- Aria, Safari Storme and the Vista in the Indonesian market. The company is also planning to introduce several new products in Indonesia by the next two years. At the ongoing 2013 IIMS, the leading auto maker has unveiled 13 commercial vehicles and several passenger cars, showing its aggressive strategy for the market.

According to a report, Tata Motors is planning to launch new products in Indonesia, and an automatic version of Tata Nano is one of them. A complete year was spent by the company to review the market condition and need, and the launch of three products is the result of the detailed market research. The research also indicated that the demand for automatic cars is high, and people prefer to drive automatic cars in Indonesia. This has led the formation of a specially designed automatic Nano, which is expected to hit the market by the next year.

Recently, Tata Motors India launched a new TVC to promote Nano, which has been an excellent hit on media. Speaking to The Hindu, Mr. Biswadev Sengupta, President Director of PT Tata Motors Distribusi Indonesia, said, “We are very clear that within the next 3-4 years, Indonesia will become our largest market outside of India. It’s going to happen.”

1.5 millionth second-generation Skoda Fabia rolls off the facility

Skoda, the Czech automaker has announced that it has produced the 1,500,000th second-generation Skoda Fabia. The vehicle, a Fabia 1.2 TDI, rolled off the production line at the company's main factory in Mlada Boleslav. The current generation Fabia was launched in 2007, while the first Fabia sales debut happens in 1999. Having sold 3,253,817 first and second generation Fabias to date, the small car is the Czech car manufacturer’s best-selling model, after the Skoda Octavia with 3,984,821 sales worldwide.

“The Skoda Fabia has been of crucial importance to the success of the Skoda brand,” says Skoda CEO Prof. Dr. h.c. Winfried Vahland. “Producing 1.5 million vehicles since 2007 is proof of the outstanding development of the Fabia and indicates how well the customers perceive the current generation. In Europe and other international markets, the Fabia is our best-selling model after the Octavia and a cornerstone of our growth.”

The Skoda Fabia was launched in 1999 as the brand's third new model. The company sold around 1,788,063 units of first generation Fabia, which were produced over a period of one year. Production started on the second generation in 2007, firstly as a hatchback and then, in 2008, also as a Combi. The Skoda Fabia is known for its spaciousness with external compact dimensions, low fuel consumption and a host of practical solutions.

The Fabia is available on European markets as a hatchback, Combi, the adventurous Fabia Scout and the sporty Fabia RS. A very environmentally friendly GreenLine version is also available. Skoda additionally offer fantastic special editions of the small car, such as the Fabia Monte Carlo and Fabia Combi Monte Carlo, which pay tribute to Skoda's 112-year successful history in motorsports.

Toyota Kirloskar Motors has announced that it will hike the prices of its key models by up to 1.50 per cent with effect from September 21. The Japanese automaker has attributed the price hike to inflation, falling value of the Rupee and increase in cost of raw materials. This is their second hike in less than 15 days. Toyota had previously hiked the price of the Camry and Fortuner by one per cent on the second of this month.   

The models whose prices have been hiked include the Etios, Liva, Corolla and the Innova. The Etios gets a price hike in the range of Rs 4000 to Rs 8000 while its hatchback sibling the Etios Liva gets a price hike in the range of Rs 4500 to Rs 8600. Among its larger vehicles, the Corolla Altis gets a hike in the range of Rs 11, 000 to Rs 24, 000 while the Innova MPV gets a hike in the range of Rs 7000 to Rs 11, 000. 

The auto industry as a whole has been seeing bad numbers and negative growth for more than six months now.  It is likely that by the end of month, more manufacturers will be forced to raise their prices once again.
