Skoda Octavia expected to hit Indian showrooms in festive
season
Industry experts feel that the new Octavia has the potential to
turn around the fortunes of its manufacturer. The Volkswagen Group owned auto
maker has endured a torrid period in the Indian car market in the recent past.
Most of its models have not been able to generate the kind of sales the
manufacturer was expecting. Skoda will hoping to ride on the success of the
previous generation models to lay a platform for the new Octavia to do well in
India. Reports have suggested that the company is banking heavily on the
festive season to get back some market share. Auto makers, for the past year,
have been troubled a lot due to the slowdown in the market, economic crisis and
constantly rising fuel prices. In times like these, the sole escape to ensure
that companies sustain themselves in the market is a good showing in the
festive season.
The auto maker has added a number of features to the new
Octavia, be it in terms of appearance, drivability or technology. This
executive sedan will come with bi-xenon headlamps along with the LED daylight
function. The presence of this system ensures better illumination, thereby
providing enhanced visibility. There is a panoramic sunroof with a tinted glass
that comes with an electronic controller. One of the highlights of the new
Octavia is the Electronic Stability Control function that drastically improves
the driving dynamics of the car. Other highlights of the new Octavia is the six
airbags, automatic front wiper and lighting system, Tyre Pressure Monitor and
Skoda Audio Player. The comfort of driver is enhanced by the 2-way electrically
adjustable driver seat, which also has memory settings for storing a preferred
arrangement.
Although nothing has been confirmed, Skoda is expected to
introduce the Octavia in both diesel and petrol options. Reports have claimed
that the diesel version will be powered by 2.0-litre engine, which will produce
around 150 bhp. According to sources, there will be two petrol versions of the
new Skoda Octavia including 1.8-litre and 1.4-litre variants.
